How should a bra fit..?

We've all heard the comment that something like 66% of women are wearing the wrong size bra, well thats not because you dont know how to buy a good fitting bra. With weight loss and weight gain (and boob gain and boob loss) your size can fluctuate and your bra size is likely to change. Also like outer wear there can be variations to your size depending on style and brand. So how should a bra fit?

My Breasts spill out of the bra!

Think about when you wear your shoes, its not a nice look to have your feet squashed into a shoe - there is a serious ouch factor, a comfortable fit wins at the end of the day.  Breasts shouldn't spill out of a bra appearing like they are squashed they should sit quite comfortably and the wire should never dig into your breast tissue, it's likely your cup is too small.

The Bra is gaping!

If there is a gap or too much space in the bra the cup size is too big or you may simply be trying on the wrong style of bra for your breast shape. If one of your breasts is noticeably bigger than the other fit the larger breast as you can always add extra padding to the smaller breast to compensate and fill the cup.

The Bra is not sitting flush with my body!

It is rather pointless wearing a bra that doesn't sit flush on your body. Where the bra meets the centre of your breast bone should sit comfortably flat and so should the wires under your breasts. In this scenario it's likely you don't have a big enough cup and the band is too loose.

The Band is too tight!

If your band size on the loosest hook is really tight you'll end up not wearing the bra at all. Wearing a bra that is too tight can create unnecessary stress and can leave marks on your body, not to mention show off access skin and folds you never had.

The Band is too loose!

Use the rule of buying a bra that fits firm (not tight) on the loosest hook or middle hook; you're likely to get more life out of the bra as you can tighten the band as it wears. If the back of the bra is ridding up and not offering support go down a band size, keep in mind if you go up or down a band size your cup size may need to be altered too. Many women can run into the problem of having to buy a bra that fits best on the tightest hook as going down a band size does not offer the right cup size.

How should a Bra feel on?

A bra should not only feel amazing and supportive, it should also evoke confidence and well-being. That goes with your briefs too, a good brief, g-string or boxer should hug your curves, not dig into your skin so you can see where they have cut in. You always know when your underwear is doing its job of making your body shape look amazing; you walk out the door with confidence.

Lingerie Expiry date

If your bra is losing its support because of continuous washing and wearing you might need to think about throwing it out, it's probably not doing its job anymore. If you can get away with the use of a popular bra and brief for up to two years it has really served you well. Aren't you bored of that old set anyway? Freshen-up that lingerie drawer!
